Es ist und bleibt das beliebteste Erinnerungsstück an das "Turnier der Meister". Das offizielle T-Shirt zum Cottbuser World Cup ist bei Fans wie Sportlern gleichermaßen beliebt und war in den vergangenen Jahren regelmäßig noch vor dem Ende der Veranstaltung ausverkauft.

Ab Donnerstag ist das schwarze Shirt mit knallig orange-weißem Druck am offiziellen Merchandising-Stand in der Lausitz-Arena für 18 Euro (Kindergrößen 15 Euro) erhältlich.

Das Turnier der Meister® in Cottbus behält auch in den kommenden zwei Jahren den Status eines Weltcup-Turniers und soll nach Wunsch des Teams um Turnierdirektor Mirko Wohlfahrt wieder die Turnfans elektrisieren.

"Wir sind der sportpolitischen Rückendeckung, den Förderern und dem Sponsorenpools höchst dankbar, dass unser Turnier 2022 trotz der fehlenden Zuschauer so reibungslos funktionierte" sagte Wohlfahrt und ergänzt: "2023 wollen wir wieder ein für Cottbus typisches Turnfest organisieren und dies gemeinsam mit den Fans in einer ausverkauften Arena erleben."

Das Label eines Weltcups bekam das Cottbuser Turnier im August 2021 für die Jahre 2022, 2023 und 2024. Bisher hatte die FIG die Weltcups jeweils im olympischen 4-Jahres-Rhythmus vergeben. Nach den pandemiebedingt um ein Jahr verschobenen Olympischen Spielen von Tokio, beträgt der neue olympische Zyklus drei Jahre - bis zu den Spielen 2024 in Paris.

Das Cottbuser Turnier rutschte mit der 45. Auflage im Jahr 2022 im Turnkalender wieder in das erste Jahresquartal. Das 46. Turnier wird vom 23. bis 26. Februar 2023 in der Lausitz-Arena Cottbus stattfinden.

In terms of sport, the team of Ukraine has reeled off its program at the Gymnastics World Cup in Cottbus and clearly determined the level in the field of more than 30 nations. On Sunday Illia Kovtun on parallel bars as well as Daniela Batrona on balance beam were able to enter the lists of winners of this traditional tournament. Nazar Chepurnyi as second on the men's vault will surely keep Cottbus in good memory as well. Already on the first day of the finals, the trio had ensured four top placings, including a second place by Kovtun on pommel horse.

On the second day of the 45th Tournament of Champions, the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) again remained without a World Cup medal. The best result was achieved by 17-year-old Aiyu Zhu from Cologne after a safe routine on the balance beam, finishing in fourth place (12.533 points). Batrona received 13.200 points for her winning routine. In her third final in Cottbus, Zhu finished seventh on floor with 11.233 points. Spain's Alba Petisco (12.900) was the winner on floor.

In the men's event Glenn Trebing from TK Hannover finished fourth on parallel bars with 14.300 points. Best of the day came the Ukrainian Kovtun (14.966). On the men's vault, the World Cup victory went to the Armenian Artur Davtyan (14.983) ahead of the best qualifier Nazar Chepurnyi (Ukraine/14.600). German gymnasts did not qualify. On the "royal apparatus" high bar, the US American Brody Malone took the lead with the last routine of the competition with 14.700 points.

For the German Gymnastics Federation team, which competed without its figureheads such as Olympic silver medalist Lukas Dauser, not everything went smoothly in sporting terms. "It's good that the tournament actually took place. Because I know it's not easy to manage such an event during the pandemic," summed up new men's head coach Valeri Belenki, himself a three-time winner at the Turnier der Meister in 1994. "The bottom line is that we had two appearances in the finals, I'm happy about that. And now we have to keep looking ahead towards the European Championships," said the former Olympic champion. New women's coach Gerben Wiersma drew a satisfied conclusion after his debut for the DTB. "I saw many positive things that we can build on in the future," said the Dutchman.

With around 300 participants from 32 nations, the Turnier der Meister turned out to be smaller than the last time it was held in 2019. "We are nevertheless happy that we were able to host again - this time with a small but fine tournament," tournament director Mirko Wohlfahrt concluded. The revenue budget of 550,000 euros has been secured even without spectator income. The hygiene concept worked smoothly. By Sunday, no one had been tested positive for Corona. "We definitely want to continue," Wohlfahrt announced, "in 2023, the Turnier der Meister in Cottbus should once again become a festival - with everything that makes us special." The 46th edition is scheduled for February 23-26, 2023.

Sportlich fokussiert hat die Mannschaft der Ukraine beim Weltcup im Gerätturnen in Cottbus ihr Programm abgespult und das Niveau im Feld der über 30 Nationen deutlich mitbestimmt. Am Sonntag konnten sich Illia Kovtun am Barren sowie Daniela Batrona am Schwebebalken in die Siegerlisten dieses Traditionsturnieres eintragen. Nazar Chepurnyi als Zweiter am Sprung der Männer wird Cottbus sicher ebenfalls in guter Erinnerung behalten. Bereits am ersten Finaltag hatte das Trio für vier Top-Platzierungen gesorgt, darunter ein zweiter Platz von Kovtun am Pauschenpferd.

Der Deutsche Turner-Bund (DTB) ist auch am zweiten Tag beim 45. Turnier der Meister ohne Weltcup-Medaille geblieben. Für das beste Ergebnis sorgte die 17 Jahre alte Aiyu Zhu aus Köln nach einer sicheren Übung am Schwebebalken auf Platz vier (12,533 Punkte). Batrona bekam für ihre Siegerübung 13,200 Punkte. In ihrem dritten Finale von Cottbus erreichte Zhu am Boden nach einem Sturz auf der zweiten Bahn mit 11,233 Punkten den siebten Platz. Am Boden siegte die Spanierin Alba Petisco (12,900).

Bei den Männern belegte Glenn Trebing vom TK Hannover am Barren mit 14,300 Punkten den vierten Platz. Tagesbester war hier der Ukrainier Kovtun (14,966). Am Sprung der Männer ging der Weltcup-Sieg an den Armenier Artur Davtyan (14,983) vor dem Qualifikations-Besten Nazar Chepurnyi (Ukraine/14,600). Deutsche Turner waren nicht qualifiziert. Am „Königsgerät“ Reck setzte sich der US-Amerikaner Brody Malone mit der letzten Übung des Wettkampfs mit 14,700 Punkte an die Spitze.

Für die Mannschaft des Deutschen Turner-Bundes, die ohne ihre Aushängeschilder wie den Olympia-Zweiten Lukas Dauser antrat, lief sportlich noch nicht alles glatt. „Es ist gut, dass das Turnier tatsächlich stattgefunden hat. Denn ich weiß, dass es nicht einfach ist, in diesen Pandemiezeiten eine solche Veranstaltung zu stemmen“, resümierte der neue Männer-Cheftrainer Valeri Belenki, 1994 selber dreimal siegreich beim Turnier der Meister. „Unter dem Strich hatten wir zwei Finalplätze, darüber freue ich mich. Und jetzt müssen wir weiter nach vorne in Richtung EM schauen", sagte der ehemalige Olympiasieger. Der neue Frauen-Trainer Gerben Wiersma zog nach seinem Einstand für den DTB ein zufriedenes Fazit. „Ich habe viele positive Dinge gesehen, auf die wir in der Zukunft aufbauen können", sagte der Niederländer.

Mit rund 300 Teilnehmenden aus 32 Nationen fiel das Turnier der Meister kleiner aus als bei der letzten Austragung in Vor-Corona-Zeiten im Jahr 2019. „Wir sind trotzdem froh, dass wir wieder Gastgeber sein durften – diesmal mit einem kleinen, aber feinen Turnier“, resümierte Turnierdirektor Mirko Wohlfahrt. Der Etat von 550.000 Euro ist auch ohne Zuschauereinnahmen abgesichert. Das Hygienekonzept hat reibungslos funktioniert. Bis Sonntag gab es keinen positiven Fall. „Wir wollen auf jeden Fall weitermachen“, kündigte Wohlfahrt an, „2023 soll das Turnier der Meister in Cottbus wieder zum Fest werden – mit allem was uns ausmacht.“ Die 46. Auflage ist vom 23. bis 26. Februar 2023 geplant.

Cottbus. On the first final day of the 45th Gymnastics Worldcup in Cottbus “Turnier der Meister”, the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) remained without a medal. This Saturday, Nils Dunkel from MTV Erfurt was the best German male gymnast in the Lausitz Arena, finishing fifth on pommel horse. The gymnast who also participated in the Olympics in Tokyo last year achieved a score of 13.966 points today. The victory on pommel horse went to Filip Ude from Croatia (14.366).

Lea Marie Quaas from Chemnitz finished fifth on uneven bars (12.433) in her first World Cup appearance. Aiyu Zhu from Cologne finished seventh with 11.800 points. The 17-year-old will still compete in the finals on floor and balance beam in the second final round on Sunday. The winner on uneven bars was Tisha Volleman (13.333). A World Cup victory in Cottbus is endowed with 1000 euros.

Yahor Sharamkou won the floor exercise with 13.933 points. The Belarusian did not perform the most difficult routine but made the fewest mistakes. Olympic champion Artem Dolgopyat from Israel fell and stepped over twice and with 13.400 points did not get beyond sixth place. On the rings, the day's victory went to Turkey's Ibrahim Colak (14.733). On the women's vault, Tjasa Kysselef from Slovenia was in the lead after two rounds (13.183). During the qualification competitions on Thursday and Friday, no German gymnast had made it to the top 8 on these apparatuses, thus getting a ticket for the final.

In a statement, the DTB condemned the war in Ukraine and promised the delegations in Cottbus further organizational and psychological support. "Sport should stand together and overcome borders," urged Alfons Hölzl, president of the German Gymnastics Federation, asking the approximately 300 participants from 32 countries to respect a minute of silence, as they did on Friday as well.

Für die beste Männer-Platzierung sorgte am Samstag beim Weltcup in der Lausitz-Arena Nils Dunkel vom MTV Erfurt als Fünfter am Pauschenpferd. Der Olympiateilnehmer von Tokio kam auf 13,966 Punkten. Den Sieg sicherte sich Filip Ude aus Kroatien (14,366).

Lea Marie Quaas aus Chemnitz wurde bei ihrer ersten Weltcup-Teilnahme Fünfte am Stufenbarren (12,433). Aiyu Zhu aus Köln belegte mit 11,800 Punkten Platz sieben. Die 17-Jährige ist am Sonntag bei der zweiten Finalrunde noch in den Finals an Boden und Schwebebalken dabei. Siegerin am Stufenbarren wurde Tisha Volleman (13,333).

An den Ringen ging der Tagessieg an den Türken Ibrahim Colak (14,733). Auch hier konnte sich kein deutscher Turner für das Finale der Top 8 qualifizieren. Am Sprung der Frauen lag Tjasa Kysselef aus Skowenien nach zwei Durchgängen vorn (13,183). Deutsche Turnerinnen waren nicht am Start.

Der Deutsche Turnerbund verurteilte in einer Stellungnahme den Krieg in der Ukraine und sagte der Delegation in Cottbus weitere organisatorische und psychologische Unterstützung zu. „Sport sollte zusammenstehen und Grenzen überwinden“, forderte Alfons Hölzl, Präsident des DTB und bat die rund 300 Teilnehmer aus 32 Ländern wie am Freitag um eine Schweigeminute.

Cologne's Aiyu Zhu and Hannover's Glenn Trebing won three more final places for the newly formed team of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) on the second qualification day at the 45th Turnier der Meister in artistic gymnastics in Cottbus. Zhu finished fifth on both balance beam and floor and reached both World Cup finals. Trebing finished sixth on parallel bars and also qualified for the finals.

Glenn Trebing provided the highlight for head coach Valeri Belenki's mens team on Friday. With a strong routine on the parallel bars (14.033), the gymnast from Hannover qualified for the final and was within striking distance of the podium in today’s qualification. Felix Ramuta from TSV Unterhaching finished eleventh with 13.533 points. The qualification was won by Illia Kovtun from Ukraine (15.000). On the horizontal bar Nils Matache (SC Berlin/12.733; 13th) and Remuta (12.633; 15th) had no chance in the fight for the finals' ticket. Here, the American Brody Malone (World Championship third in 2021) from the USA came out on top with his spectacular flying show and 14.633 points.

Local hero Tom Schultze missed the final on vault at his World Cup premiere as well as on rings the day before. After two solid jumps, the 20-year-old from SC Cottbus Gymnastics scored 13.716 points and finished 16th. "I am very satisfied with his performance here. Tom performed courageously, achieved great results twice and showed that he can keep up with the world's best," said tournament director Mirko Wohlfahrt. Schultze himself was not quite as satisfied with his debut. "In the first jump I just had too much momentum. Of course it is a pity not to be in the finals," said the athlete from Cottbus, who will get his next chance at the fourth and last World Cup stop in Baku/Azerbaijan at the end of March. Felix Remuta finished 25th on vault with 13.300 points, where the best gymnast of the day was the Ukrainian Nazar Chepurnyi (14.749).

On balance beam Aiyu Zhu focused on her routine and reached the final in fifth place with 12.200 points. Lea Marie Quaas (TuS Chemnitz-Altendorf) finished tenth with 11.666 points after an involuntarily dismount on her last lane. Daniela Batrona from Ukraine won the qualification on the balance beam with 13.300 points. On floor, Zhu ensured her third final appearance of the weekend in fifth place (11.900). Quaas (10.900) was 14th, best of the day here was Alba Petisco from Spain (13.166).

On the first qualification day, the German Gymnastics Federation had already booked three tickets to the final. Nils Dunkel from Erfurt reached the top eight final on pommel horse in seventh place. In the women's competition, Aiyu Zhu in seventh place and Lea Marie Quaas in eighth place reached the final on uneven bars.
