The day started with the men’s floor final, where Diego Hypolito performed a great routine including some very difficult tumbling passes. The Brazilian mainly impressed with his tucked double Arabian into front full in his second tumbling pass. Hypolito scored 15,466 points to win the gold in the first apparatus final of the day.
Hypolito was followed by Slovenia’s Rok Klavora who finished second (14,866). Oleg Verniaiev from Ukraine, who will compete in all six apparatus finals this weekend, grabbed his first 2016 Turnier der Meister medal as he scored 14,833 to win the bronze.
Verniaiev continued his medal haul on pommel horse where he scored 15,000 to win the silver. 2015 World silver medalist Louis Smith from Great Britain secured the gold on that apparatus (15,100). Daniel Corral Barron from Mexico won the bronze (14,700).
Verniaiev teammate Igor Radivilov won the gold on still rings, followed by Henrique Medina Flores from Brazil and Dennis Goossens from Belgium.
40-year old Oksana Chusovitina from Uzbekistan secured her tenth Turnier der Meister vault title as she performed two solid vaults to score 15,00 points. She finished well ahead of Chinese gymnast Jing Wu (14,350) and Tjasa Kysselef from Slovenia (13,966).
Sophie Scheder from Germany secured her country’s first gold medal as she won the final on uneven bars by scoring 14,900 points.
